Life Update
It's been so long that I forgot I even had this page. I didn't even know it was still around.
Long story short and I'm not going to go into the details of it. I had an accident at work on Thursday, February 13. I was discharged from the ER the next morning, with a broken clavicle, a couple ribs and a chest hematoma. The first few days were the hardest and by Monday morning, I felt like the worst was behind me. Had a few decent days following that. Each day felt like baby steps in the right direction, with a few steps sliding back. Today is a sliding back day.
Over the last week, many people have reached out with their words of support. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. My heart is full with love and gratitude knowing how much everyone cares.
A lot has changed in the 11 years between my last blog post and now.
I lost my job at ScanDigital when they relocated to the midwest. Joined the post office as a city carrier assistant in October 2015. Started in Eagle Rock and became a city carrier in January 2017. In September of that year, I was assigned to another station as I was not able to get a route at Eagle Rock. The way the post office works, carriers bid on open routes and they are awarded by seniority. It took me almost a year to get my own route and I have been on my current route since October 2018.
The job has it's ups and downs. The job can be very physically demanding. But I have a great community. If you know me, I took the time to get to know the families on my route. Learning their names, their kids names, their pets names. I've grieved with them, celebrated life moments with them. They are as much as part of my community as I hope I am a part of theirs.
An opportunity came up earlier this year to bid back to Eagle Rock. I considered it, prayed over it, and came to the conclusion that it was not the right time yet. Maybe the Lord saw this accident was going to happen and He knew it was better to be where I was. With a community behind me. Would the accident still have happened if I was at Eagle Rock? Only the Lord knows. But if it did, I would not have the support I have now. My fellow carriers have let me know my "customers" (as we call them sometimes, or residents) on my route have reached out and asked how I'm doing, are concerned about how I am.
